Is the new Beginner 1 mandatory for all new students?

No.  Only new students with zero English proficiency should start at the new Beginner 1. Those who select the “Very Little” option in the four questions of the Screener Test will automatically be placed in Beginner 1. Students with basic English knowledge will continue from Beginner 2 or other appropriate levels.
